Sharing Sports - Cricket
Across the Pond (CAP) is a community initiative led by the Toronto
Parks, Forestry and Recreation in partnership with CIMA Canada and
a lead financial sponsorship from the Royal Bank of Canada. CAP
is designed to provide opportunities to youth from diverse neighborhoods
and develop social cohesion and interaction among young people through
cricket. CAP uses cricket as a vehicle to reach out to youth by
giving them a sense of hope, increased self-esteem and opportunities
to become positive role models in our communities. The program provides
young Toronto cricketers with leadership and communications skills
and the opportunity to travel to UK and learn life lessons as ambassadors
of Toronto. CAP aims to develop these young Toronto ambassadors
as youth role models in our communities.
Sharing Sports is a Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation initiative
aimed at welcoming and encouraging newcomers and diverse groups
to take part in sports. By Sharing Sports we can help to alleviate
some of the barriers to participation by diverse communities and
equity seeking groups. Sports speak to a universal language of sharing
and Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation is committed to creating
opportunities for every Torontonian to participate in the sporting
realm.
