CIMA Canada hosted a conference on innovation at the Bram and Bluma
Appel Salon, Central Library, Toronto on Thursday, October 30th.
The event examined how organizations and individuals can nurture
a culture of innovation, and d how innovation can transform markets
in the 21st century.
CIMA President Keith Luck, FCMA CGMA and Arleen Thomas, CPA, CGMA
(SVP – Management Accounting & Global Markets at AICPA)
joined business leaders and other VIPs for this discussion of one
of the central challenges of the 21st century.
This year's keynote speaker was Amanda Lang, Senior Business Correspondent
for CBC News. As well as being the host of CBC TV's "The Exchange
with Amanda Lang" Amanda is the author of the best-seller,
The Power of Why: Simple Questions That Lead to Success.
The keynote speaker was followed by a round-table discussion, chaired
by Paul Waldle, Editor of the Globe & Mail's Report on Business.
Confirmed panelists include Terry Stuart, Chief Innovation Officer,
Deloitte, Hossein Rahnama, Founder and Chief Executive Officer,
Flybiits, Ken Kelly, Senior Vice President and Controller, Mc Cormick
and Co (retired), Sumit Luthra, VP, George Weston Bakeries and Marrouane
Nabih, CFO, Randstad Canada.
The conference considered not only how organizations can promote
“innovation”, but importantly, how they can incorporate
it into their operations. The panel also discussed answers to some
of the most challenging issues in management accounting such as:
• Is Innovation organic, or can it be built into the organizational
culture?
• Can the finance team overcome their reputation for stifling
Innovation and become champions of creativity?
• Does our education system, from kindergarten to business
school, do enough to develop an instinct for Innovation in the business
leaders of tomorrow?”
The session was followed by a cocktail reception from 5.30-7pm.
