Sunnybrook Park, Toronto
The sixth Annual CIMA annual Mayor’s Trophy
was held amidst the uncertainties of road closures
and traffic congestions resulting out of the G20
Summit scheduled to be held on the same day in
Toronto. However, it turned out that the G20 had
no impact at on the event plans but it was the
usual suspect, the bad weather that threatened
the event for the third year in a row. Yet again
CIMA Mayor’s Trophy eventually prevailed
beating both the G20 blues and the weekend that
saw over 50 mm rain in Toronto.
The event started on a gloomy Saturday morning
with a Chinese Band and a lion dance followed
by the ceremonial opening game CEOs team Vs. the
Mayor’s team. The CEOs tam included both
the Globe and Mail Publisher Phillip Crawley and
the Toronto Sun publisher Mike Power. Mayor David
Miller missed the event for the first time since
the inaugural event in 2005, due to G20 obligations.
At a press conference held at City Hall on June
18th, CIMA Canada announced the Mayor David Miller
Spirit of Cricket Award as a tribute to Mayor
Miller. This year marks the last year of Mayor
David Miller’s term of office.
With continued threats from the rain that started
around 10.30 am, eighteen teams taking part in
the CIMA Mayor’s Trophy 2010 did not let
the rain dampen their enthusiasm to continue with
the event. In the end the spectators were treated
to one of the most exciting finals games of the
CIMA Mayor’s Trophy finals. Toronto Housing
beat Metro News to become the 2010 Champs of the
Mayor’s Trophy. Metro News was the winner
of the CIMA Media Trophy and Deloitte won the
CIMA Accountants Trophy.
