Mayor's Trophy 2011

Seventh Annual Mayor's Trophy a huge success

After three consecutive years of rain interruptions at this event, rain finally kept away from the 2011 CIMA Mayor's Trophy which ended with Toronto Police winning the Cup and Metro News winning the CIMA Media Trophy.

Harold Baird, the President of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), and Gulzari Babber, the Deputy President, traveled to Toronto to join Toronto Mayor Ford and MPP Christine Elliott at the successfully concluded seventh annual CIMA Mayor’s Trophy. Large crowds from Toronto’s diverse communities attended the seventh annual CIMA Mayor’s Trophy held on June 25, 2011 at the Sunnybrook Park in Toronto

“We are delighted to see such a broad representation of Toronto’s public, private and media institutions coming together with CIMA in our annual community event,” says Amal Ratnayake, Chair of the Board of Directors of CIMA Canada. “With the help from our sponsors and community partners, this event has helped CIMA give back to our community with a particular focus on youth. CIMA Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament and the Cricket Across the Pond scholarship program are direct results of the success we achieved through the Mayor’s Trophy”

Media cricket teams from the Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Toronto Sun, OMNI TV and CBC participated in the event and NEWSTALK 1010 joined CIMA as a media partner. These partnerships helped attract extensive media coverage for the youth initiative. The TTC Chief General Manager Gary Webster was on hand to Cheer the TTC Cricket Team. Deputy Police Chief Peter Sloly and the Chair of the Police Services Board Dr. Alok Mukherjee were there to cheer the Toronto Police team. Transportation Minister Kathleen Wynne cheered GO Transit to win the Cup. Councillors Doug Ford, Adam Vaughan and Joe Mihevc attended the event supporting CIMA Cricket initiatives. Mayor Rob Ford and MPP Chrstine Elliott were the Chief Guests at the event.

CIMA Canada wishes to thank CIMA President Harold Baird, Deputy President Gulzari Babber, and our sponsors and partners for helping CIMA organize another successful Mayor's Trophy.
