The eighth annual CIMA Mayor’s Trophy will be held on June 23rd at the Sunnybrook Park in Toronto. CIMA President Gulzari Babber will be in Toronto to welcome Mayor Ford and special guests of the eighth annual CIMA Mayor’s Trophy.

CIMA partnered with the Toronto Parks, Forestry & Recreation to launch Toronto Annual Celebration of Cricket – CIMA Mayor’s Trophy in 2005. Since then the event has grown in popularity and profile to provide Torontonians with an opportunity to showcase and celebrate Toronto’s diversity through cricket. The event also uses cricket as a vehicle to bring Toronto’s vastly diverse communities together and helps raise funds for youth cricket initiatives.

CIMA is focusing this year’s event to bring attention to the school cricket in Toronto. In partnership with CIBC, CIMA launched CIMA Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament for the CIBC Trophy. Forty school cricket teams took part in the very successful first year of the CIBC Trophy.

Over the last four years, CIMA has helped provide young Toronto cricketers with cricket scholarships under the Cricket Across The Pond (CAP) program. Funded by the RBC Royal Bank, CAP provided young Torontonians with leadership and communications skills and an opportunity to learn life skills as ambassadors of Toronto in England. As members of the Toronto Mayor’s Cricket Team, the young Torontonians were given the opportunity to visit Lord’s Cricket Grounds in the UK to learn the history and heritage of cricket. The CAP program has had a tremendous impact on youth in our communities and has helped inspire young Torontonians towards positive pursuits in life.
